The Work of the Student Council
The Student Council will undertake a variety of activities, which will support the school. In planning activities the Student Council will consult with the advisor(s) and Principal.

Student Council Election Process
Term of Office
Each member will serve for one academic year, from the date of election until the following June.
Requirements
Students are expected to attend Student Council meetings, represent their class and school by maintaining a high standard of behavior and achievement. Student Council members are expected to earn 25 points each quarter to remain active in Student Council. Students can earn points by attending meetings, events, completing Student Council duties, and by participating in committees. The point system is listed below:

Meetings
The Student Council will meet multiple times throughout each quarter. Whole-group meetings will take place twice a month on Thursday afternoons. Committees will meet as often as needed, approximately 2-3 times per month. Committee meetings will take place during lunch in Mrs. Melnyk’s room.
Meetings are an opportunity for new ideas, comments, and questions to be shared. Students are expected to be actively engaged and to refrain from using phones during meetings. Meeting times will vary depending on when they are held, but will often last approximately 30-45 minutes. When a council member had advance knowledge that they cannot attend a meeting, they will inform the advisor no later than the day before the meeting
Discipline and Removal of Student Council Members
Student Council members are held to high expectations as representatives of their classmates and the school. Therefore if members do not meet the expectations set for them or fulfill their requirements, they will begin the dismissal proccess as described below. Once this process is initiated, parent contact will be made.

Student Council Objectives
- To enhance communication between students, management, staff and parents
- To promote an environment conducive to educational and personal development
- To promote friendship and respect among students
- To support the management and staff in the development of the school
- To represent the views of students on matters of concern to them
Membership Qualifications
- Grades – Must have a 1.5 GPA and must have passed 85% of courses in previous quarter. All 7th grade students entering the junior high school for the first time are elligible for the first quarter of the year (middle school grades are not counted toward eligibillity).
Student Council Election Process
- The election process will include a student vote as well as teacher input.

- 1st offense: Probation - Once placed on probation, you must correct the problems by the end of the following nine weeks in order to regain eligibility. Voting right and privileges may be temporarily suspended while on probation.
- 2nd offense: Dismissal - After two consecutive nine weeks on probation, a student may be dismissed from Student Council.
Causes for Probation or Dismissal
- If required point sheets are not completed
- Failure to acquire the appropriate number of points for each quarter
- If contract or code of conduct is broken
- Non attendance at three consecutive meetings without a valid reason
- Non attendance at five total meetings throughout the year
- Regular non-involvement in Student Council activities
- If a pupil leaves the school.
- If a pupil is suspended
- If a member acts inappropriately in a meeting or uses their council membership inappropriately
- Any other issues that may need to be addressed at the discretion of Student Council and administrators
